December 14, 2009, Livermore, CA - Dogs aren't only man's best friend, they are amazing listeners. That's what children learned last Fall in Paws to Read, a program sponsored by the Livermore Public Library and the Valley Humane Society, which will go into its second round in January of 2010. Based on studies which show that reading with trained therapy dogs can improve a child's self-esteem and confidence, as well as encourage a child to read more, Paws to Read has proven to be very popular with youngsters perfecting their reading skills.
Registration for future Paws to Read sessions begins Monday, January 4th. You may register for up to three sessions between January 20 and March 10, as space allows. Drop-ins may be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The programs will take place on Wednesday evenings, with two sessions between 7 and 8 p.m. Sessions will be approximately 25 minutes long and will be held in the Livermore Public Library Civic Center Craft Room. Participating children should not be fearful of dogs or have allergies to pets.
